The latest Serafin Power Poll results are in, and like our famous weather, the forecast is… complicated. This month we asked power pollers their opinions on the state’s economy, the city’s budget deficit, the presidential election and holiday shopping.

Economic Outlook: Mixed Signals Ahead

When it comes to Illinois’ economic future, our power pollers aren’t exactly jumping for joy. Here’s how the numbers break down:

46.48% believe recent political changes will negatively impact Illinois’ economic health

23.94% say it depends on the Illinois Congressional delegation’s approach

14.79% expect positive outcomes

14.79% remain uncertain

What’s Driving Voters? (Spoiler: It’s the Economy!)

In news that should surprise absolutely no one who’s recently bought groceries, here’s what respondents identified as the top issues driving voter decisions:

Economy’s impact on average families: 78.72%

Immigration/border security: 13.48%

Dissatisfaction with VP Kamala Harris: 6.38%

Abortion: 1.42%

Foreign policy/wars and Democracy: 0%

JB’s Big Adventure: Pritzker’s Presidential Prospects

Is Governor Pritzker eyeing a bigger office? Here’s what our respondents think about his potential 2028 presidential run:

50.35% believe he will run for president

24.82% aren’t sure

24.82% think he needs to focus on being Governor and solving Illinois’ problems first

Budget Blues: The Billion-Dollar Question

Speaking of fixing things, Chicago’s facing a budget deficit that makes the Cubs’ payroll look modest. Here’s how respondents think it should be handled it:

74.64% say the city needs to live within its means and reduce spending

14.49% think Springfield should step in with help

10.87% believe the Illinois Congressional delegation should secure federal funding

Holiday Spirit Still Alive Downtown

Here’s some good news for State Street and Mag Mile merchants – Chicago’s holiday tradition remains strong:

63.83% plan to do some of their holiday shopping and dining downtown

21.28% say they’re staying away

14.89% remain uncertain (We assume the uncertain folks are waiting to see if we get another polar vortex!)

What It All Means

While challenges loom, there’s still that characteristic Chicago resilience shining through. The strong focus on fiscal responsibility paired with continued support for downtown traditions show power pollers are both practical and passionate about the city’s future.

As we gather to celebrate the season of gratitude, we want to take a moment to say thank you to our clients and friends.

This Thanksgiving, we wish you and your loved ones health, happiness, and all the joys that come with the season.
