With October drawing to a close, Chicago finds itself navigating complex questions about Middle East peace negotiations, public safety perceptions, and the future of casino gambling in the Windy City. Read on to learn more about what our Power Poll members have to say about everything from the Cubs postseason run to predictions of a 2025 market crash.

Key Findings

Trump’s Middle East Peace Deal Recognition

Chicago’s influential leaders remain skeptical about awarding President Trump major recognition for brokering the Israel-Hamas ceasefire. The largest group (41.28%) believes the peace deal is fragile and its long-term impact remains unclear. About one-third (31.19%) think Trump’s leadership directly led to a historic breakthrough deserving of recognition like the Nobel Peace Prize. Another 26.61% acknowledge some credit is due but believe global recognition may be premature, while less than 1% (0.92%) remain undecided.

Thanksgiving Holiday Traditions

The vast majority of respondents embrace Thanksgiving as a meaningful celebration. Over three-quarters (76.58%) describe it as a cherished tradition with family, gratitude, and reflection. Nearly one-fifth (18.92%) enjoy the break but keep celebrations low-key. Only 2.7% don’t observe it in a significant way, and 1.8% say their plans vary year to year.

Chicago Safety Despite Declining Crime Reports

Despite official reports of declining crime rates, Chicagoans remain unconvinced about improved safety. Nearly 40% (39.81%) don’t feel safer despite the reported data, while 28.7% appreciate the decline but remain cautious. Only about one-quarter (24.07%) have noticed a meaningful improvement in safety, and 7.41% believe more transparency is needed before forming an opinion.

Chicago Cubs Postseason Engagement

The Cubs’ 2025 playoff run generated mixed levels of fan investment among Power Poll members. The largest group (35.14%) was moderately engaged, checking in occasionally and rooting for the team. One-quarter (25.23%) followed every game and felt deeply emotionally connected. About one-fifth (20.72%) were aware but not actively engaged, while 18.92% had other priorities or interests this season.

Casino Expansion Through Slot Machines

Opinion is divided on legalizing slot machines in Chicago bars and airports to address budget shortfalls. The largest group (36.04%) opposes the idea, citing social and economic risks that outweigh benefits. However, one-third (33.33%) support it as a way to generate meaningful revenue and enhance entertainment options. Another 27.03% could possibly support it with strict regulations and community input, while only 3.6% believe the issue needs broader public debate.

2025 Stock Market Crash Predictions

Most respondents are taking a wait-and-see approach to warnings from financial experts about a potential 2025 market crash. A strong majority (61.26%) are monitoring the situation but not making investment changes yet. About one-fifth (20.72%) are taking predictions very seriously and already adjusting investments. Only 11.71% believe the market will self-correct, and 6.31% remain skeptical of what they see as alarmist forecasts.
